Man, I'm so excited about this one! Don't know about the rest of you but this is news to me. Evidently you can turn old plastic grocery sacks in to yarn, or "plarn", and use it to crochet reusable grocery totes. I have long since purchased canvas bags to carry my purchases in but i forget them in the car or at home and from time to time still end up with a box full o annoying plastic sacks to take back to the store for recycling. I was so stoked to find this craft idea today so that I may make use of said box o annoying plastic sacks. The totes appear to be pretty strong and flexible. I stole a couple of pics so that you can check it out. I don't know about Shreveport, but out here in Vegas you can't swing a dead cat without getting it hung up on a damn plastic sack. I can't wait for the day these things are outlawed here like they are in parts of California.

Jen,
Why do you want to swing a dead cat when live ones are more fun?
You have to sell these! I want to be your first customer. Can you make a fairly large one to tote groceries? Scottie recycles absoutely everything and this would be right up her alley. It's hard to buy a gift for someone like her. She has canvas sacks for everything. The other day I grabbed a sack for the grocery and learned I had the dog's sack instead of the "whole foods sack" Even the dog has a sack to shop for pet food! So make me a large recycled bag, bag and I will proudly present it to my daughter! I am serious! I want to buy one right away!
I just bought the right size hook at the craft store. As soon as I complete one, I'll let you know how it comes out. Hopefully this "plarn" isn't too difficult to work with. It's all a great mystery as of right now. I'll keep you posted. :)
Correction. I THOUGHT I bought the right size hook. Damn.
